KDE icon customization problem

Hi all...

I am running Slackware 14.1 x86_64 multilib using mostly the MATE and XFCE Desktop enviornments.

I have about a handfull of KDE applications that I use like Amarok and Gwenview... to get these apps running (and a base KDE Desktop) I installed kde-baseartwork kde-baseapps kde-wallpapers kde-workspace kdeadmin kdelibs kdepim-runtime kdepimlibs kmix libkscreen mplayerthumbs nepomuk-core nepomuk-widgets oxygen-gtk2 oxygen-gtk3 oxygen-icons phonon-gstreamer phonon-mplayer pykde4 superkaramba and a few extra packages I won't mention to try to get a seriously minimal KDE Desktop Enviornment running.

I have just about accomplished all that all I want, however I need to be able to change my KDE icon theme from oxygen to gnome in the KDE system settings module. The problem I'm having is I haven't installed the correct packages so the module for changing the icon theme in KDE System Settings (Application Appearance/Icons Section) isn't showing up.

Can anyone tell me the package(s) I need to install to get the complete Application Appearance Dialog to work in KDE System Settings?

Or can anyone tell me a file I can edit by hand to set it (and any other KDE theme settings)? I might prefer this method actually.

thanks in advance, cheers

XFCE should handle icons automatically... so, you want to be able to see your GTK icon theme in QT applications?

if you want your QT applications to inherit your GTK theme settings, add these two lines to /etc/profile.d/qt4.sh:

GTK2_RC_FILES="$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0:/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
export GTK2_RC_FILES

log out and in. Tip is from here.

If it does not work, have a look here

I actually solved this problem (I was running E17) for me by adding the following in /etc/profile.d/qt4.sh just beneath the ones from above.

export DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome

One more thing: if you go back to using KDE, you should comment out the lines above. I have experienced some glitches and problems when I had left them.

Smile KDE icons

[QUOTE=solarfields;5126878]XFCE should handle icons automatically... so, you want to be able to see your GTK icon theme in QT applications? ...

thanks for the tip! I'll keep my email for a reference. I have a very basic kde system setup and it's running great, even with compiz! if you want a system profile I can prolly pull one up

my KDE icons are being properly updated to the gnome icons now. I forget which package I installed, kde-(something-or-other) and then was able to change the icon theme in system settings
