KDE: error when starting Konsole

If I start the Konsole in KDE, I get this message:

> Fatal server error:
> Server is already active for display 0
> If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock > and start again.

> When reporting a problem related to a server crash,

(15 seconds of waiting)

> compaq@compaq_hda3:~$

and from that moment on, the Konsole seems to work normally.

If I start KDE as root, I don't get this message

Any idea, what's going on and what I must do to prevent this error message and these 15 seconds of waiting?

if its allready active it sounds like some1 is logged on your system. another user. (but im not sure, i dont have a clue really)

Hmmm.

First I login as a normal user, then I say startx to start KDE, and then I open Konsole to log in again. The some1 is the same me!
What must I do to get rid of this error message?

huh?! what did you just say? i Really dident understand that.

did you LOGOUT of your other user be4 you tried to log on AGAIN?

georg9 08-07-2003 02:16 PM

No. I didn't logout.
I find Konsole to be more convenient to work with than the plain text console like tty1, because I can have more things on my screen in the same time.
But how to get rid of the error message. It doesn't come when I initially log in as root.

ehm... dude, you confuse me BIG TIME. imma say this; after you log ON a user, you have to log OFF him BEFORE you can log ON another user;) good lcuk

Have you tried to remove /tmp/.X0-lock that's referred in the message?

georg9 08-07-2003 02:34 PM

No.
When should I do that?
Before I say "startx" ?

You could...

Or if you notice the error message again, go and check it out...remove and try again I suppose.

I wish I could help more, but I use Eterm :D
