KDE doesn't start afterwards after upgrading to 4.10.0

Hello,

OS - Slackware 14.0, x86.

Just upgraded to KDE 4.10.0 from the existing KDE 4.9.2 using Alien's Ktown packages with all the steps mentioned in README.

Upgrade went successful however after rebooting and logging into new KDE, the splash screen shows up and the then the screen goes 'black' and doesn't come up. I tried switching on and off the LCD light manually by the hot key, doesn't make any difference. The Hard-disk activity light also doesn't blink.

Machine specs - No fancy graphics card, simple Intel inbuilt one. Has survived many KDE upgrades since Slackware 13.37. Not sure what did I miss here.

I'm typing this from the xfce session for now.

Any pointers to what would've went wrong? (I'll go for downgrading to 4.9.2 later).

Regards.

Looks like I'm a victim of circumstances. Tried reinstalling 4.10.0 to no avail. Downgrading to KDE 4.9.2 worked but partially broke the KDE (random crashes) and I had to re-install Slackware to fix, first time in 2 years.
I'm on freshly upgraded 4.9.2 now. As good as always has been. Lesson learned :- Don't be a guinea pig.

Anybody else experienced something like this?

Regards.

Did you rename your $HOME/.kde directory? You can remove it, but I always like to rename it in case I have to revert back.

I removed it and started from fresh one still I mostly had crashes where I required root authorizations.
I'm not sure what went wrong with 4.10.0 and I'm crying a bit.

Regards.

Sorry it didn't go smoothly for you. I didn't encounter anything like that when I upgraded.

Well, I upgraded my vanilla Slack14 VM to 4.10.0 and that went smooth and crisp. No issues at all.
So it seems like something must have happened while upgrading from 4.9.2 to 4.10.0. I have no time for now to find out the root cause, I'll put this on hold for some time and will perform the activity somewhere in the end of this month.

Regards.
