KDE 4.8.5: random "hangs" on login

Hi,

I just tried out (stock) KDE 4.8.5, and I have some stability problems with it. On every second login, the KDE splash screen shows the first two (blurry) icons, and then stops there. When I kill it using Crtl+Alt+F6, the attempt just after it goes right, and KDE starts. On the next login though, the problem will show up again.

I have an NVidia GT210 card and I use the recommended proprietary driver from NVidia and a TwinView monitor setup. Xfce is running very nice with this card, with full Compiz effects and all.

Any clues as to what might happen here?

When you log out, check using "ps ax" if any processes are still running for your user account. I had this problem because a nepomuk process would not die after logout, and as a result a second logon would hang at the 3rd blurry icon.

The workaround described in post #7, worked for me.

That did the trick! Thanks!

(@Eric: no trailing Nepomuk processes here. Thanks also for the hint.)
