KDE 4.8.1 high CPU usage after login
KDE 4.8.1 works well on my laptop and feels very fast but I noticed that if after login if I don't use the PC the nepomukindexer process eats about 100% of the CPU for approximately 90 minutes. Next comes virtuoso-t which uses about 25% of the CPU for some time. This happens at every boot. What's happening? Is it reindexing everything at every reboot?
Maybe I should remember to turn on the laptop two hours before I can start using it. :-) P.S. I know I can turn off indexing but it looks like a disappointing solution to me, yet I found no other solution in similar threads. |
If you don't uses KDE search system at all you can turn it all off via
System Settings -> Desktop Search & deselect "Enable Nepomuk Desktop Semantic Search" 4.8 Now searches email so if you've been running 4.7 without issue look here :- http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=98857 |
I have noticed virtuso-t using allot of resources my system has been up for 3 days and its still using 50% of my cpu and 150mb of ram.
I am not to worried at the minute as my system still feels snappy but i would love to know what its doing as the file indexer says its idle and i use web mail for my email. |
Yet, another reason to disable the "evil triplets" and just when I thought it was safe to go back into the water (KDE 4.8.1).
Something woke me up in the middle of the night and I couldn't go back to sleep, so I've been up for the last almost 3 hours reading this and that on the 'Net. For the last hour I've been reading what I can find about the "Evil Triplets," akonadi, nepomuk and strigi. Sorry, I just don't get it. Just how is this going to benefit the "average Joe computer user"? Seems about all it has accomplished, so far, is given the KDE developers something to work on in an effort to validate their existence. :) |

I guess that nepomukindexer is really doing something, after all :-)
Code:
$ du -hs .kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/ |
For me it was constantly using a high amount of cpu but i have just removed .kde/share/apps/nepomuk and restarted X and now even though it is indexing its only using between 5% and 8% and i have tried logging in and out and it seems to remain the same.
I will wait until its finished indexing to see if this has completely solved the problem. |
