KDE 4.5.1 packages
Hello there,
Any chance to have KDE 4.5.1 packages for Slackware current? Searched both official Slackware and Alien site and found nothing. Cheers |
Just a guess but give Eric a few days and he'll have them available.

These packages will work with @rworkmann new Xorg packages? I've just installed these packages and the kernel 2.6.35.4 on my slackware-current.
|
I don't see the incompatibility points, so I think, yes - they should work without any problems... I'm currently on upgrade process, so... Keep Your fingers crossed ;D
|
I am downloading AlienBob packages. The rworkman's Xorg packages work really fine. At this moment no problems with Intel graphic. Hope the same will be with KDE 4.5.1.:)
|
Done - all works just fine ;)
Big thx, Eric :hattip: |
Downloading now - thanks Eric!

For me doesn't work. Some errors about "Console.Kit" and "freedesktop.org" and KDE crashes. But I may run KDE under tmw and under blackbox. Ok, in the runlevel 4 KDE boots up properly but only in a safe mode. What does it mean? Do I have to do some additional setups?
|
I would check if you have a customized ~/.xinitrc, in that case you can try:
- backup it; - run again xwmconfig and select xinitrc.kde - try running X again. another thing to try in case of problems should be to starting X with a fresh ~/.kde folder. |

@Dive I found ConsoleKit package in /var/log/packages.
When I disabled desktop effects KDE is working. Maybe some problems with Kwin? The other problems: fonts rendering - an 'i' letter completely disappeared. Last but not least KDE 4.5.1 is slow on my 512 MB RAM notebook. It heavily uses swap. After running Konqueror the usage of the swap increased from 80 MB to 150 MB. Really heavy stuff. It is enough to click at empty place on a desktop to hear hard drive running. The way it works reminds me the KDE 4.2.0 from Slackware 13.0. The good thing is that KDE 4.5.1 works. |
it's a way of bypass the problem (lack of ram), but I had good results with compcache, it might help in your case (512M).
|
Is there any plan to allow for Webkit support in Konqueror?
It's supposed to be added in 4.5.X but I think it requires some "webkitkde" package. I think it is in extragear. |
I upgraded succesfully, but have a problem with adding BG keyboard loyout - there isn't such in system settings>locale. How can I add it? I have installed the bg package from /kdei.

There is a kernel module ramzswap.ko (driver for swap ram?) for 2.6.35 kernel but how to build a device? |
@intel: you should find it in system settings -> input devices -> keyboard -> mapping tab -> configure mapping -> add (sorry, I'm traslating from italian messages)
@igatoder: glad you are trying it, a quick guide. :) |
@ponce
The ramzswap.ko is shipped with the kernel source. This driver is in the kernel source tree now. If will compile compcache I will get the second driver razswap.ko - this time coming from compcache source. Which should I install? |

kde 4.5.1 testing
I've upgraded to KDE 4.5.1 and it seems to work perfectly... no problems at all...
I'm running slackware64-current with xorg1.9 and custom 2.6.35 kernel. |
