kde 4.2 and FN keys.

Hi.
I run kde 4.2 and i am very pleased with it.
There is one thing i can not fix. I try to get to work Fn audio and brightness. I use .Xmodmap file. It worked for me some time ago in gnome.

I have this .Xmodmap

Code:
 keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
 keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume
 keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
 keycode 223 = XF86Standby
 keycode 101 = XF86KbdBrightnessDown
 keycode 212 = XF86KbdBrightnesschangeUp
 keycode 210 = XF86Display
Interesting fact: the audio UP+DOWN keys working.
But brightness - not. Also in PowerDevil brightness keys not working.
I checked the keycodes with xev and the keys are correct.
Still it doesn't work.
Also dmesg bring nothing when i push the keys.

The brightness is a problem for me. I have a laptop
(Acer extensa 5620Z) and sometimes i need to change the brightness.

I found, if i change to console alt+ctrl+f1 and change brightness,
after change to alt+ctrl+f7 it work. It is the only "solution" i could
reach with this problem.

Any one have idea how to help me?

Hmm, you mean you can switch to a console and change the brightness and after that, even in KDE, you can adjust the brightness too?

As a trying, you may comment out

keycode 101 = XF86KbdBrightnessDown
keycode 212 = XF86KbdBrightnesschangeUp

I mean, in kde if i push FN+Br(+-) i see no change.
If i do Alt+CTrl+F1 and change FN+Br(+-)in console,and back to kde -
Alt+CTrl+F7 i see my the brightness changed. So it works only this way.
If i comment out the :
Code:
keycode 101 = XF86KbdBrightnessDown
keycode 212 = XF86KbdBrightnesschangeUp
or even delete .Xmodmap it doesn't help.

Somehow this Fn keys thing is make problems.
In previous slackware versions i remember it worked.
Not sure how.

Hmm, I see. You mean that the keys work well in a pure console? You can see the brightness changing even in a pure console. Maybe the brightness changing which you have seen is the result of switching between console and X, not the result of key pressing. Could you confirm that you can change brightness in console?

It's strange for me... Could you please try switch from X to console and do NOT press the brightness button, and then switch back to X to see whether there is any change?

I did - no brightness change. So if i jast go to console and back
to X - there is no change.

If i change brightness in console and go to
X, and back to console - i see also in console the change.

So, Fn works only in console. Somehow it blocked in X
I found some articles about Fn, but everything i try is not working.
maybe it problem with hal ?
