Just i have a suggestion, it seem, kde support udisks2 now, maybe it's good idea, to test this, because, the same used version of udisks2 on gtk and kde application, is, better, for slackware.

You will have to install "appmenu-qt" which is hosted on launchpad and is not part of KDE. Then you have to go to "System Settings -> Appearance -> Style -> Fine Tuning (tab)" > There should be a "Menubar" section if you installed appmenu-qt and logged back in. Configure your appmenu there.

Running well here. Swifter than previous releases, but (there's always a but it seems) anyone experiencing a change to the visual representation of desktop widgets? They now seem much squarer and with a border which was not the case previously.

I created a package, so that you can try it out. I installed it and played with the possibilities for placing the application menus. It only works for KDE applications which makes it less useful to me.

In KDE 4.8, when I locked the screen the background was black. Now it's a colorful wallpaper and I can't find where to change this. Any ideas?

It's the default background used by your themes
Assuming you are using the default theme, it should be located in /usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/Default/
find background.png on the size that you wanted, for example /usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/Default/1920x1080/background.png

If I don't misunderstand your question, it's even easier: Right-click on the background, select a pattern, an image, image of the day from Flickr or other sources. In your case: Select "Image" (or maybe it's "Picture", not sure, as my desktop is not US-English). Then select a picture you like with a suitable size (resolution).

Thanks, yes. That's exactly the wallpaper image I'm seeing. Knowing this, I can simply replace it. However, is there no way to choose another image from the GUI? Sounds weird, being KDE...

Yes, it's part of the Splash Screen, i forgot to mention that one

But only if you choose one of the stock splash screens.
If you use another one from SystemSettings, then the lock screen image will be the default one anyway.

Having said that though, it's easy enough to use whatever image you want simply by copying/linking to your own preference.

My task manager allways disappear

Ok i solved my problem with this trick

I used this appmenu now for some hours, it's interesting having the menu on top of the screen.
will see if it is so usefull that this will be my new default setting, finding this out needs several hours more usage.

Do you really think that removing $HOME/.kde* was necessary? In most cases, removing the KDE caches (the other three commands you ran) would be enough, in some other cases editing a KDE configuration file may help.
For future reference, renaming instead of deleting the $HOME/.kde directory is a better approach. A rename can be undone, a delete cannot.

Well after i run first tree command's nothing change,but when remove $HOME/.kde and then create new panel all stuff work's great.Also when i change my icons they didn't change(that in dolphin) before i back to console hit ctrl+alt+backspace and rm -r /var/tmp/kdecahce-$user

Updated now my -current to kde 4.10

all works good, except one thing: I cannot write/save on a samba share with kde-sc editors (tried with kate, kwrite, kdevelop, calligra)
I always get the error (translated from italian) "Unable to write the document. Check permission and/or free disk space)

no problem using other editors (vi, vim, emacs, libreoffice) and no problem moving/renaming files from dolphin

So it's not system wide but only related to programs from the KDE-SC

Running kwrite or kate or kdevelop from the command line I always get this error trying to save on the samba share:
No problems saving on local folders with kate, kwrite, kdevelop, calligra, only on the samba share

No problems with KDE 4.8

UPDATE:

I have a problem only trying to work on a samba share mounted via fstab, with this line
removing the nobrl parameter nothing changed

I tried unmounting the share, then I tried to open the share via Dolphin -> Network -> Samba Shares

By this way I can write files from kdevelop/kwrite/kate

So the problem seems to be related to the smb mount via fstab

Another test: opening kdevelop as root I can write to the samba share (mounted via fstab)

To anyone who might have upgraded to KDE 4.10 and Amarok 2.7 could you confirm if the ability to transcode flac files to mp3 when copying files from a local collection to something like an iPod is still working? I was playing with another distro that had KDE 4.10 and the option to select mp3 to transcode the files was greyed out.
