i installed kde 4.1.2,per instructions.and it works pretty well.
the problem is i have no volume control,kmix.
and i dont have anything to open pkgs.ive searched the web and have only
found debian pkgs or rpms for kmix.but nothing to untar pkgs.
does anyone know where i can find an archiving tool so i can open pkgs?
also are there sources for kmix or any alternatives?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Based on your statements,i reinstalled kde utils 4.1.2,and kde multimedia 4.1.2,and lo and behold ark and kmix appeared!!problem solved!
thanks for the comments, it got the brain bucket in gear!!
