May the source be with you ;-)

There is an alternative mirror too (thanks ponce :-) ):

Good Evening!

I didn't understand yours request... So I'm a 13.1 slack users in a kde 3.5.10 desktop system. I used to do a fresh install unless kde 4.x and after that:

mount/mnt/cdrom slack 12.2 DVD;
/slackware/kde ( pkgtool 3.5.10 );and,
/slackware/l (installpkg arts, dbus-qt, qca-tls and qca-1.xxx).

Well, I'm a rabid user of KDevelop3, so I like or not, I need to have that KDE3 on system. ;)

And, I can give you hosting in a FTP server, just tomorrow, BUT, let's talk first about Sources. So, to respect GPL license, you should redistribute the unmodified sources (if any) and the modified sources.

THEN, give/prepare me a complete tree, with all sources & patches too, and tomorrow you have posted all of it into FTP. ;)

As I understand from GPL license I don't have to provide the whole source tree - I just have to give "access" to source, which, I belive, I did, by giving the user the download_source.sh script

From GPL:
Quote:

For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether
gratis or for a fee, you must give the recipients all the rights that
you have. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the
source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their
rights.
When you run the download script it creates the whole source tree for you ;-)

Why did you added *.txt extension? Most of torrent clients don't recognize this file as torrent. Although I am not using this time desktop on the Slackware version > 12.2 I will seed your torrent for couple of days. Nevertheless many thanks for your work.

Read carefully the first post ;-)
I added the txt suffix because LQ doesn't accept .torrent files.

Slax-Dude 04-29-2011 03:19 AM

Many thanks, alekow!

Downloaded and will seed until next release :)

@alekow

Here we go:

FTP: ftp://ftp.darkstarlinux.ro/pub/peopl...ackware-13.37/

HTTP: http://ftp.darkstarlinux.ro/people/a...ackware-13.37/

And let's not start again the ol'good Zenwalk dispute ... ;)

Let's say that it's a sign to be a good citizen and having good habits, if you literally redistribute the sources. ;)

alekow 04-29-2011 06:36 AM

I agree, that on a server it looks much better like that (with full source tree)
Thanx!

What is this kde3i example? I don't want to seed files out of what was done by alekow. Most need binaries and some information. I am thinking to do iso image with binaries. It is simpler to seed one file and burn it once have for all time.

1. I believe it's right your Polish localization, used as example to build a localization for [insert your language].

2. To understand that you seed the alekow's torrent? Then, of course you seed strict the files defined by this torrent. ;)

In fact, I don't understand what you want to say with this phrase. I doubt to be possible to 'seed' other files than these defined into torrent. Ever! :P

Quick question to any of those who have install this: does it conflict with KDE4? I understand that it places files in /opt/kde, which is nice, but does it create things in my home directory that conflict with Slackware's default KDE4 stuff, or does it place stuff in a special place like ~/.kde3 ?

alekow 04-30-2011 01:13 AM

It does conflict with kde4. I'll consider patching later.

Woodsman 04-30-2011 10:23 AM

I have several patches available in my build scripts to avoid the problem. Basically, arts, kdelibs, and kdebase are patched to make $HOME/.kde3 the default user profile and uses Desktop.kde3 as the Desktop folder.

Caveat emptor: I have not performed any "conflict" testing in 13.1 and have not yet built any packages on 13.37. YMMV.

Poprocks 04-30-2011 11:59 AM

Thanks for your honest replies, folks. I'll stick with KDE4 for now, but if it ever gets patched for ~/.kde3 and rebuilt, I'll check it out!
