KDE 3.4 kdmrc Xservers

Hi,

Ive been trying to setup remote logins on two of my systems, using kdm.

Machine 1 runs SUSE 9.1, Ive edited the kdmrc (KDE3.2) to enable Xdmcp and I can login without from machine 2.

Machine 2 runs Slackware 10.1 with KDE 3.4, Ive edited this kdmrc to enable Xdmcp and not much happens. I try to remote login to this machine and the screen flickers for about a minute and resets to the local login page.

Im not too clued up to how the whole Xfree/Xorg thing works, but I noticed in SUSE in the Xservers file there was a list of servers, where as in Slack there was only one. With this in mind I set out for a bit tinker with slackware's Xservers. Then I found out that KDE 3.4 changes its kdmrc and doesnt use an Xservers file.

could some one help setup my kdmrc file or Xservers or aty least let me know if I'm barking up the right tree.

thanks

http://docs.kde.org/en/3.4/kdebase/kdm/

there seems to be some comprehensive notes here, any use?

I've bookmarked that page, and had a bit of a look through.

I had no luck remote logging into Slackware still. From the suse machine I select remote login, the slackware machine is listed so I try to connect.. First I see a bit flickering then the nvidia splash screen (both machines have nvida cards) I presume this is Slackware splash screen. Then there is a bit more flickering, and another nvidia splash screen, Im also presuming that this is the suse splash.

Its as if it connects, finds a problem then disconnects again.

Ive now also tried using gdm on the Slackware machine, and now when I try to login from suse, it just shows a black screen with the 'x' mouse cursor.

still no further forward.

Im about to try with xdm now to see what happens.
