Hi all! Just downloaded KDE 3.2 and was wondering if the slack package tool will install all of the packages at once or do i need to do them one at a time? i removed all the kde* packages, qt, kdevelop (although i probably didnt need to do that one), arts, and koffice. i have all the new files in a folder in my home directory. can i just give one command to install kde 3.2 or do i have to do each package by its self? i am running gnome at the moment so i dont know if the order they get installed in matters...or does it?
you can set it up to install kde and all that with one single command, and here's probably the easiest way to do it:
move ALL the kde 3.2 packages, including the kdevelop, koffice, qt, etc. everything for kde 3.2 you downloaded, into a single directory, maybe call KDE_3.2, or something. CD to that directory, and type as root:
installpkg *.tgz. Once it starts, get something to drink, watch some tv or something, and it will do its thing and install it for you.
thats one sure way to do it. what I usually do is cd to the new directory i.e. kde 32, then use wget {ftp site}, finally pkgtool and answer yes to all, or installpkg *tgz
Read the KDE directions last time I looked you had to install certain packages FIRST. When I did it I installed the two (I think) that needed to be installed first, then installed the rest of the directory with the one command.
think i will try the upgradepkg command at home. i uninstalled 3.1.4 at work, then did a installpkg *.tgz, worked like a champ. logged out of gnome and back into kde 3.2. worked flawlessly. did not need to install in any order, it did everything on its own
pezplaya - i dont have sound on the box at work, but i do at home. i will try the upgrade option and see if my sound works. in the mean time, what kind of sound card do you have?
me too, me too, i upgrade kde 3.1.4 to kde 3.1.5 and everything was working very very fine, so i decide to upgrade kde 3.1.5 to kde 3.2 and what happens i don't have any sound anymore, the arts and kdeadmin packages of kde 3.2 modify my sound and alsa stuff, and know i don't have any sound like pez playa, i still don't know what is wrong, i don't have sound in kde, or gnome or fluxbox, but before i was, i have an onboard sound card cmipci and yes i have it in the module list, alsa is up to level in sound, and nothing sounds anymore
Ya, alsamixer and everything works fine... but no sound. I was searching around, and it seems like its a common problem... I heard people say that you need to reinstall alsa :/. I can try that tonight and see if it works. I'll tell you guys what happens.
yes my alsamixer its fine too, I even stop arts and play something just to see if it was the new arts problem, but nothing, still no sound and all my sound modules are there too, does reinstall alsa again will fix it???? i should give it a try.
I thought sound was killed on my computer too after updating to KDE3.2 (which I love) but the problem was that it changed (in Kmix) the defult audio out to digital. So when I turned that off I got sound back...
