kde 3.0.1: unstable?

Since upgrading to slackware 8.1, i've had nothing but problems with the new kde. konqueror crashes alarmingly often with the only error message being 'killed'. in fact, this seems to afflict most apps run under kde. has anyone else had this problem?

gnome doesn't give me any trouble by the way.

also, to save me starting another thread, what's up with linuxpackages.net?

Hmmm, I never used kde 3.0.1 but I can tell you that 3.0.2 is wicked ;)

Actually, sorry I DID use kde3.0.1 though I never had any problems with it. As I said though. 3.0.2 is better, fonts are sexy and system sounds work reliably. an update will probably fix your problems too! cool, kill two birsds with one stone.

yep, i have had problems with 3.0.1.
kicker would crash on me and also the printer configuration would crash as well. i do not know whether to attribute these to the liquid theme i was running or not. time will tell

I haven't noticed any major problems myself. I few things that don't work anymore though, but did with KDE2. Aside from the desktop though, I only use KMail and KNode as full time apps. Konqueror on the web has worked OK the couple of times I have used it. Konqueror for local file operations is where I have found some options that don't seem to work anymore. I don't use the KOffice stuff, so I am unable to comment. So I would think the base KDE 3.0.1 appears to be stable.

Since GNome is based on GTK I think and KDE on QT3 now, perhaps there are some library issues. Maybe upgrade QT3 first, if available? It looks like I have QT 3.0.4 installed from the Slack 8.1 CD.

Cheers!
