K3B defaulting to 24x

Every time I try to burn a cd (it doesn't matter how or what I burn), it defaults to 24x.
I hate to compare with Windows, but, Windows could burn at the max speeds of the drives (48x each). Using K3B, it will go to 24x even if I ask for 4x or 48x, it screwed up a CD-RW I had because it only allows burns at 4x.

I'm using the default everything in Slackware 10.2 (so that means SCSI emulation), but in Mandrake 10.1 it still had the same problem (2.6.x kernel without SCSI emulation if i'm correct).

look in the settings, somewhere u can change the default write speed

I couldn't find an option like that. I tried setting the Manual Writing Buffer Size to something much higher (like 100) and that didn't help, anyone have a clue as to why K3B sucks compared to its Windows counterpart (CloneCD, Nero, etc).

I tried SCSI-emulation also, it didn't work. What is wrong with K3B?
