I don't know how to change it, but you can try KBFX to enhance the KDE menu.

installed the app, has some kool themes, but i'm not getting them to work, is the app compatible with compiz?

EDIT: never mind its an applet, i have to add it to the panel, but it will still be kool to know the location of the kmenu icon

I think it may be in `kde3-config --prefix`/share/icons/<theme>/<size>/apps/kmenu.png

The portion between the ` is a command that returns the prefix of your kde3 directory... if that doesn't work I think its kde-config. I don't have access to linux right now to check.

I haven't changed that in a while.
