Just tried 32-bit of 14.1-beta

I installed 14.1-beta 32-bit on another partition and tried it out. Nouveau had a fault and did a traceback. I'm wondering if Nouveau 32-bit cannot handle 64GB of RAM (presumably PAE mode being maxxed out). Or maybe it cannot handle the SMP kernel?

This is not a usage blocking issue for me since 32-bit will ultimately be used in chroot, LXC, or VMs. But here is some of the dmesg output in case someone wants to read all that. The message at 7.060415 might be interesting, too.

Code:

you can try to pass a different vmalloc value, like hinted in the dmesg and here: in /etc/lilo.conf add in the line beginning with append
Code:
vmalloc=256M
relaunch lilo and reboot.
you can try also with higher values, gradually: it might be 64Gb are too much for it on 32bit, but I think a more pertinent answer on the problem can be given by the nouveau devs

Nouveau crashing usually boils down to your GPU being too new for having stable support. Inside the same module, there are reasonably working drivers for the older chips and alpha-quality drivers for newer ones. And there is no way to separate them via kernel configuration...

not much OT, just to let you know that we are starting to see the effects of Linus' finger...

It works fine in 64-bit. But still it could be partially too new. It's a GTX-560.
