To change resolution look in ur /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the resolution in the "Display" section ( put the first resolution that u want to use in first place )

Change /etc/inittab's default line to... I think it's 4. I don't use it but I think that's the GUI runlevel. That question gets asked a lot. Search around if I got it wrong.

inittab in slack

In Slack the number should be set to 4 not 5. it's 5 in Red Hat. I just switched form RH to Slack. I'm still using startx to get a gui. While editing my XF86Config file, Imade a few errors. It's a lot easier to get it fixed by using pico or vi in text mode than watching the xconfigurator go into an endless loop. I think it's a good idea to just use startx unitl your sure that you have everything set the way you want it. Also it's a good idea to copy a working XF86Config file to a safe place , just in case. Most importantly, you should make a separate /home partition with fdisk or cfdisk. That way you won't lose you information on a reinstall. Just remember to select the partition ,but not to FORMAT the /home partition during the reinstall. Put copies of all you important files there also.
