just installed KDE4.1,some apps dont work?

i decided to try kde4.1,so far i like it,but i cant unzip any pakages.
also i keep getting a message when i go into the appearance menu,it says"no default plugin"and a warning.obviously i need to tweak the system,i just dont know where to start.is there a site i can download,pkgs,or apps for kde4.1?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the problem with ".zip" files is fixed in kde-4.1.1, don't know with the appearance one
