Hi

I followed this guide

http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:software:java

to install Java and all goes well until I run

$ which java
when I get

Code:
which: no java in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec:/usr/lib64/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.)
Should I be adding a directory to $PATH as well? Puzzled as to what's going wrong as the isntallation of the .txz file seemed to work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you log out and in again to update the environment variables?

I think given Oracle's lack of interest in giving away things for free, and their slowness in releasing security fixes, you should really be looking at one of the alternative javas. On Fedora I'm running OpenJDK which, thanks to RedHat, is a pretty complete runtime.

If you want OpenJDK on Slackware, then that is easily accomplished by downloading and installing either the JDK or the JRE from http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/openjdk/
