Japanese fonts under Slackware 9.1
I am currently trying to get Japanese fonts and input to work. I have canna, kinput2 and kterm installed. I start up the canna server and start kinput2 with the -canna option. I also export these variables:
export LC_ALL=ja_JP export LANG=ja_JP.eucJP export XMODIFIERS='@im=kinput2' I start emacs and press shift+space and nothing shows up, from what I have heard a kanji character is supposed to start up. Seeing this I checked to see if any clients were connected to the canna server. It reported back to me that the kinput2 I had just previously started was connected. Any ideas on how to get the problem to work, any help would be appreciated greatly. |
Moved: Seems more suitable in our Slackware forum. Regards.

Japanese input. Hehehehehehe.... Ahhhhhhhh.
I spent a good amount of time doing what you are trying, 3 separate times actually. It was a futile effort. (for me) :-P My solution? Since I don't use Japanese input that often, I keep a CD of Knoppix JP handy. Knoppix JP has AMAZING Japanese input support. I boot into that when I need it. ...actually, this has kind of sparked my interest again. Maybe it's time for the 4th try! I'll report back after. But I guess I just want to say, don't worry. It IS difficult. Ganbatte! |
I gave up trying to get Japanese inputting to work in Slack. I have lots of room on my HD so I made a partition and installed Plamo Linux. Plamo is a Japanese distribution based on Slackware. If you know Slack, it is easy to configure. I've installed a few slack 8.1 packages from linuxpackages.net and everything still seems to work OK. Looking at all the lanuage specific packages that are installed, it is no wonder I couldn't get anything to work in Slack.
