[edit] Just tried it out and it seems to work well. I can't speak to the stability since I *just* tried it (the old Flash plugin was 100% stable for me, and hopefully this one will continue to be). It plays 1080p fullscreen video from YouTube perfectly and it played a flash game without any trouble. [/edit]
Glad to hear it.

flashplayer-plugin: added v10.09151 which is "Preview 1 of the new Flash Player
'Square'" and it comes in 32-bit as well as 64-bit. Essentially this is the
folow-up to the withdrawn beta flasphplayer 10 for Linux.

Those were the magic words for me!

I installed the 64 bit binary from flashplayer_square_p1_64bit_linux_091510.tar.gz in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so and Hulu works on Slackware64.

An interesting side effect is that the Firefox addon Flashblock doesn't seem to work with the new binary. I installed Flashblock as a precaution when I kept the older, vulnerable flashplayer on my machine. I grew to like Flashblock because it got rid of those annoying, constant motion ads.

Adobe® Flash® Player "Square" UPDATE

As a reminder, if you plan to use Youtube to test the new flash plugin, make sure you aren't opted-in to Youtube's HTML5 beta. You can check your status by visiting: http://www.youtube.com/html5

That page will show your status and also allow you to toggle participation. I opted out of html5 before trying out the new flash plugin.

Is there a way to live without flash? For example, is there a way I can just download youtube vids, and watch them locally?

VLC can play a youtube URL directly and does not need any other program for the playback.
Either through the menu (Media > Open network stream) or directly at the commandline:
Code:
vlc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s13dLaTIHSg

There is a nice commandline utility called youtube-dl:

I believe there are a few firefox add-ons that let you download .flv files to be played locally.
