iscan on slackware 9.0

Has anyone successfully installed iscan from Epson Kowa from either rpm or tar.gz on their Slackware 9.0?

I have Slack-10 and installed sane-backend and iscan from source,
after removing the original sane package(s) from Slack.
Compiled sane-backends and iscan with ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc.
Added 'epkowa' to the list of backends in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.
