Is VirtualBox fubar?

I just updated to 13.37 and I am tring to run a brand new install of virtual box and I am getting all kinds of errors one after the other...

Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_WORLD_WRITABLE).
Unknown error creating VM (VERR_SUPLIB_WORLD_WRITABLE).

Any ideas?

Whenever there is any sort of kernel change, my VirtualBox stops working. I reinstall it, and it comes good again.

wouldn't that be just a matter of

Code:
# /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
to re-build the vbox kernel drivers for the current running kernel?

What version of VirtualBox?

I found this bug ticket for an older version of VirtualBox. there were some solutions in the bottom.

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3403

I can confirm, however, that VirtualBox 4.0.8 works on my 64-bit system with 32-bit compatibility layer present. Slackware 13.37

How are you installing VirtualBox? Binary or Slackbuild?

FWIW, I install the binary (ducks...); I've found it *just works*.

cheers,

Is VirtualBox installed under /opt? If so, is /opt or anything under /opt/VirtualBox owned by someone other than root, or world writable?

I am running 4.0.8 and I installed using the binary just like I have all ways done in the past without issues.
I have removed it and re installed it and still no go. I installed the 64bit version.

Frustrating....

If /opt was writable by all then you have either had an accident with chmod previously or your system has something on it that it shouldn't.

things like /usr & /opt should never have o+w set as anyone could then modify important parts of the system.
