Question Is Slackware, Inc. "scaled back"?

I recently read (in the 2002 updated edition of the Linux-Distribution-HOWTO) that Slackware linux experienced financial trouble after Walnut Creek CDROM was purchased by WindRiver and Patrick Volkerding scaled bsack the project to a minimum. The document claims that Slackware was reduced to a single ftp site(ftp.slackware.com). How long ago was this assertion valid? The document is originally dated 1995 and speaks in some portions of Yggdrasil and SLS as being contemporary distributions. What is Slackware's current financial forecast? Any thoughts or answers would be greatly appreciated.
