Is it easy to build X11R7 on Slackware 11?

I have integrated video card on i945G chipset, and I currently run X11R6. However its driver here isn't so good, and I have heared that the driver in Xorg7 is perfect.
I want to switch to Xorg7 but I can't find anywhere instructions what to download and how to build it.
I tried with slackware precompiled packages according to the instructions here: http://wiki.beryl-project.org/wiki/I...l_on_Slackware. This didn't work, becouse the new X was put its shared libraries in its own directory other than /lib. I managed to fix that by adding that directory to ld.so.conf, but it didn't work again (I got some errors, can't remember...) So I through out these precompiled packages, put back my old X11R6 and now I want to build Xorg7 from source. Is it hard? Can I install version 7.1 without having version 7.0?
I've read sort of a howto here at linuxquestions: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=400042 but it seems hard, and there are really TONS of applications to be downloaded. Is it that every X app must be recompiled in order to be used with that new X7?

So many questions... if someone could tell me if that xorg can be build in less than a day?

Do a search. Many of your questions were answered recently in this post:

Building X takes a lot of time and patience. It isn't something I would attempt. And I've been using Slackware since 1999.

Some of your apps may need to be rebuilt, but most should work OK with some cleverly placed symlinks.

You may follow the installation guide that I found very helpful and accurate: http://wiki.thoughtbit.com/linux:slackpkg:xorg-7.1

I installed the precompiled packages and successfully running Beryl using the proprietary NVIDIA driver.

Short answer:
- I'm not sure. You may need to try it out yourself.

Long answer:
- I think as dropline only updates GTK+ and GNOME, the installation guide will apply to stock Slack with updated GTK+ and related libraries.

- In my machine Beryl works like a charm with both GNOME and XFCE, but it didn't work well with KDE. So if you're a KDE user you may encounter extra glitches.
