irssi 0.8.18 and built in sasl support...

New version of irssi in -current, great news! Has anybody got the inbuilt sasl support working? Looks like it should be:

Code:
/NETWORK ADD freenode -nick <nick> -sasl_mechanism plain -sasl_username <username> -sasl_password <password>
But this does not work for me yet, some more investigation ahead. I suspect that freenode may not be much help at the moment website is down and some confusion in the freenode camp...

OK it only took me 2 hours!! Two commands:

Code:
/SERVER ADD -auto -ssl -ssl_verify -ssl_capath /etc/ssl/certs -network freenode -port 6697 irc.freenode.net
/NETWORK ADD -sasl_mechanism plain -sasl_username <username> -sasl_password <password> freenode
and good luck finding that in anything but the irssi built in help . The file sasl.auth is of course no longer required which makes things a little easier...

I noticed it too trying to get on freenode yesterday. Really nice to have it built in.
I just edited the irssi configuration file as the networks were already heavily configured.

My own config file is also a little unwieldy but rather than edit it directly I cut the Gordian Knot and ran the following first:

Code:
/SERVER REMOVE irc.freenode.net
/NETWORK REMOVE Freenode
Then re-added Freenode...

My config-fu is not as strong.
I prefer and more confident and digging in the text file to make any changes. Helps me keep the file somewhat neat.
