Yes, take it from alot of experiance.. stay away from windows wizards.. especially that one.

Just go to your ethernet's tcpip settings in windows
ip: 192.168.0.1
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway and dns leave empty (unless you know the primary and secondary dns settings of your ISP)

go to your slack box
netconfig
ip: 192.168.0.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1

That's all you need.

I did that but doesn't seem to work . I ve got a usb modem with no static ip and also dns primary and secondary server .
for the xp ethernet card i have 192.168.0.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
and the above promary and secondary servers

for the slackware box via netconfig -> static ip 192.168.0.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1

so what am i doing wrong ?

thank you

You'll probably have to add nameservers to your /etc/resolv.conf. Add the nameservers of your isp to that file. Syntax:
Code:
nameserver <ip.of.dns.1>
nameserver <ip.of.dns.n>
Can you ping your windows box ? ping -c 4 192.168.0.1 ?
