Internet is not working NEED HELP!!
Slackware looks great and works great :D
But my internet doesnt work... In Mandrake it worked great when I selected Static IP and entered the IP, DNS and gateway manually. But in Slackware my internet isnt working but I have the correct IP, DNS and gateway... I have Cable internet and I work with a router. Who can help me ? |
first what does /sbin/ifconfig report about eth0? Usually with slackware I'll use a DHCP server (slackware's dhcp client is dhcpcd) and just start it running with 'dhcpcd'. But I'll try to help out however I can.

have you run netconfig?
|
Which internet connection do you have?
ADSL with PPTP connection? Dedicated router / gateway? Can you ping the gateway? Can you ping IP's? For example 195.241.48.33. What does route -n shows? |
I cant ping Im getting the follow message:
connect: Network is unreachable What now ?:Pengy: |
is the eth0 interface up? (/sbin/ifconfig)
If it is then is the network mask and IP address correct? That should be enough to get you to be able to ping another IP address (provided the gateway is also correct). |
I have changed some thing in rc.inet1 and now i am able to ping the IP of the router and other website IP's.. But i cant get onto internet in a browser..
Whats next ?:scratch: |
if the router is your nameserver try adding the ip of the router in /etc/resolv.conf.
nameserver = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx |
Yeah it just sounds like you're not getting any name resolution. If you can open a website in your browser: google.com = 216.239.39.104; linuxquestions.org = 67.179.4.146 then you just need to add DNS server IPs to resolv.conf (as mentioned above)
