Internet connection setup?!?!?

Hey, I have read a few posts about people haveing trouble setting up thier internet connections but didnt seem to get anything from them that helped. I just started with slackware because I would like to get an FTP and a Mail server going. install went ok ( KDE wont start kdeinit but I am using xfce insttead) I have run netconfig several times with no luck. My router uses DHCP up to 10.0.1.200 and then I can use static address after that. this computer is runninf off of a static IP (1.201) I need the Slackare box to run static as well, sothat I can route FTP and SSH, there.

ifconfig shows eth0 and lo though eth0 does not give an IP address where lo does.

what can I do?!?

this seems like something that should be simple, and yet. . .

Use netconfig to configure the card, or just edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf
A quick look at http://slackbook.org may give you some quicks hints too.

If using a static address you need to configure it for one. As already mentioned, editing /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf is the way to do this.

You should read Slackware Linux Essentials book. The guide for network connecting is very detail. First you need to run netconfig then edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf to your needs then run /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 eth0_restart.

What do you mean by no joy? Is the IP address being assigned? If it does, try pinging some internal machine, or also setup your router as gateway (and probably the DNS servers too) and get access to Internet.

Running netconfig does not change the settings immediately. Either reboot or run /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 to maker your changes active.

No joy as in it wasn't getting an IP address, good to know that you need to reboot, Unfortunately I decided to try and see if there was a networking issue on my part and managed to kill my network setup (having 4 routers is a bitch) Get back to ya soon, thanks for the help!
