Intel video drivers on slackware 12

I am unable to get video on a slackware 12 install with my intel i830 video. Doesn't seem to matter which config/setup script I run I always get a blank screen that slowly fades to white. If it weren't for having a working slackware 10 install on another drive I'd say hardware broken. Basically I ran out of drive space so I bought a bigger drive and figured it was time to install the latest so its a clean 12 install on a new drive. editing the xorg.conf manually with the same horizontal/vertical/etc values from the slackware 10 install won't work on the 12 install so I can't see whats wrong.

Could you post the Device section of your xorg.conf file? Here's mine by the way, running slack 12 on an intel 965 motherboard with onboard intel graphics:

Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
VendorName "Intel Corporation"
BoardName "Intel 830 - 965"
Driver "i810"
Option "DPMS"
Option "May_Need_ForceBIOS" "1"
Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" "1"
EndSection

If yours looks the same, the next obvious place to look would be in your Monitor section.

Some Intel onboard VGAs have an open-source driver. I don't know if i830 is supported by this open-source driver.

I don't have an Intel onboard VGA, so I can't say with certainity, but I see a package named:

Code:
/mnt/cdrom/slackware/x/xf86-video-intel-2.0.0-i486-1.tgz
it may be it! Give it a try. Don't ask me what to put in Xorg though :-P

If this doesn't work, or if you want something temporary to work for now, you can try the "vesa" driver.

I'm now wondering if its this issue http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...sil164-574944/

where the intel driver overwrote the i810 driver because the i810 driver works in slackware 10.

I have an integrated intel card that uses the "intel" X driver (i915 and drm modules).

All I can say is that support for this card is a very good reason to move to 12.1.

Running 1440 x 900 nicely. OpenGL is a bit funky. I have DRI in everything except google earth - it works fine once it starts, but the errors at startup would make you think otherwise.

The other thread was the fix, reinstalling the i810 driver fixed the issue of putting the i810.o back over the intel.o driver.
