I have that problem only if my browser is not running at the moment (Firebird). If it is running, Evolution spawns another Firebird window and loads the HTML stuff in there.
No kidding? See, I am also using Firebird, but it doesn't matter if I have an open window or not. It still doesn't work. I wonder if it has something to do with the MIME settings. I am using Fluxbox, and I'm not sure where to find those settings... I also see you are running RedHat. Thats probably the difference. Evolution is well supported for RedHat, but not all that great in Slackware.

Hahaha...you're gonna laugh now, as I wrote the previous message I was busy updating evolution (to version 1.4.5). Now that it is finished, I am also unable to click on a link and have it open a new browser window, no matter if firebird is running or not. I am going to fiddle a bit and see if it depends on the MIME settings or something else.
lol! Ain't that a pisser? Let me know what you find out. I am helping my brother install Slack over the phone while trying to recompile my kernel to include scsi-emulation at the moment. How's that for a geek weekend
I might visit fluxbox.org later and find out where the MIME settings are...
I am using 1.4.5 now, but had the same troubles with 1.4.4 also.

Too geek for me . I am going out now to get pissed, that's what the weekends are for anyway. I checked with the MIME settings, quite easy to do with windowmaker (which is the wm that I am using) and it's not that. I think that it is some sort of global setting, and I seem to remember reading something along those lines somewhere. Anyway, I will look at it again tomorrow, after I deal with the hangover and will let you know if I am successful. Have a cool weekend!!!
I can usually get links to open in evolution by using a combination of an .htmlviewrc file in my /home directory that says
X11BROWSER=/path/to/browser
and by setting the little gnome conf thing, in 'Preferred Applications.' I believe Ev uses the second setting to figure out which browser it should use. This hasn't always worked, though. In 9.1 especially, the gnome setting doesn't stick. I think Ev still opens links, though.
Worked for me! Use the preferred applications in Gnome then boot back to flux. If you have any extra commands/parameters in your .xinitrc file, back it up real quick or you'll have to set it up again. Oops...

May be just my intoxicated state right now, but I am looking for the preffered applications thing in Gnome right now and I can't find it. I created the .htmlviewrc file in my home dir....but where is the damn thing in Gnome?
Can someone hold a brothers hand here??? Its bloody irritating having to paste URLs all the time.

Aaaah...found it, and it works!!! Thanks Scruff, although now I am feeling quite low....obviously I didn't have enough beer, if I was still capable of finding it...damn. Well, there is always next weekend.

Ok, found another problem...this time, clicking on links in Evolution will start Firebird (even if it isn't running), however if it is running, it wants to start another instance of Firebird, and not just open another window of the currently running instance. The problem with this is that Firebird won't allow it - it wants to create another profile to be able to run it (since the current profile is already in use). Anyone know a way to get around this? Do you get the same problem, Scruff?
