Installing slackware8.0 from ISO fails

Hi,

I've spent quite a lot of hours now trying to figure why my slackware fails when installing. A burnt a ISO using Easy CD-Creator. When trying to install (booting from the cd) it gives me errors on some packages stating that there might be something wrong with the tar file. So I reburnt the CD' again and tried well then it just fails on ohters packages.

What might be wrong. This is my system conf.

AMD K-6-2 333
128 PC133 RAM
6,4G IBM
1,5G WDC
48x Creative CD-Rom

I get errors as well when trying to install a redhat, it fails on some packages.

Please help me out here

I've heard Linux doesn't like AMDs. Can't remember where I read that.

Linux doesn't like AMDs? Now why should you think that?!? As long as the kernel is compiled with AMD optimization it runs without problems, although i dont think this is necessary but reccomended. Nothing wrong with AMDs and Linux. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Easy CD creator is the most likely culprit here, try using nero if you have to burn an iso in winblows.

or use fireburner

seizmic,

I've run into errors like those you mentioned and found that the cd I was using wasn't all that clean. Wiping it off cleared up the problem. The issue could also be a dirty CD ROM lens.

I've downloaded slackware 8 .iso from ftp://dl.xs4all.nl/ with 138 kb/sec and i burnt it too. No problems;

Given the fact that three different CD's are giving the same type of problem it seems likely that you have one of two problems. Either (as everyone else seems to be saying) your CD burner software is malfunctioning or your CDROM unit is going bad. First try using another CD burner package, then try cleaning your CDROM. Finally, if neither works, try another CDROM.

I've installed Slackware 8.0 on a ISO image burnt by NERO.
I got the image from a Linux DVD.
I have it working on a AMD-233 machine.
i've heard there is some problems with Cryix chips but not AMD.

By the way try another CD-Rom may be a good idea. Some CD-Roms don't like partiular CD-Rs. Have you done any tests on reading a CD lately ?

Either his CDROM unit is going bad or he needs a new burner program. This is the best advice you could come up with.

HAHAHAAH

First, why doesnt he check to make sure he didnt download a CORRUPT ISO????

I think that the most likely culprit will be the ISO, but as someone before stated, try nero. it handles iso's well.

Poke around inside your iso using a program like winimage available from
