LinuxQuestions.org - installing slack on SD card

Hi,

I've got this epia EN15000 board. Trying to save energy in the house.. so that's why i wanna use it as a server. The complete computer uses about 20 watts (including harddisk and usb device). So, that's pretty nice.

This computer has a 2.5 inch 40 GB sata disk. But, i wanna install slackware on an SD card. and use the sata disk for my data. So that when i don't use the harddisk, the harddisk can go to sleep mode.

Now, when using the SD card i should have as less writing activity as possible. So, i would like to install slackware (minimal install with perhaps a small windowmanager)

I don't want a swap partition, and i should create a ramdisk for my /tmp stuff and have rotating logs. I have a 1 GB memory module. And i want to install slackware on a 1 GB sd card (special offer in the supermarket ;) ) it was only 25 euro.

I'm not sure whether it is possible to do an install like this. I did a search on installing slack on an USB stick, or sdcard., but i couldn't find anything in these forums.

Maybe some of you people could advise me a little. Maybe some of you have done similar installations, or have similar configurations. I'm willing to read stuff, but don't want to reinvent the wheel.

This server will be running 24/7/365, once it is up.

1 GB should be enough for not having a swap partition. and for the several /tmp dirs and files. Although i don't know exactly which dirs and files to mount into ram.

Well, anyway.. would be nice to see some info in a discussion. If you have some time and have experience, or knowledge in installing slack on sdcard/usb stick etc, please post ;)
