Installing Samba Cups printer

I have recently installed Slackware on an IBM Aptiva and am trying to access a colour printer on an XP box.

CUPS and Samba are both running. Can print to a Laser on a print server on the network. I can also print to the colour printer from Fedora and Mandrake running in separate partitions on the IBM Aptiva machine.

My problem is that I try to install the printer using Printing Manager I select Add Printer but on the Backend Selection form the option <SMB Shared printer (Windows)> is greyed out. On the equvalent in Fedora and Mandrake this option is available for use. How do I enable this option ?

The XP box is called abit. From slackware smbclient -L abit gives expected results in that it can see the XP machine and the shared printer.

Thanks

Progress!

Got the SMB enabled by the following

cd /usr/lib/cups/backend
ln -s /usr/bin/smbspool smb

Printing total crap but at least it is printing. Need to find the right driver.

Tried to get something else printed. It was having none of it.

Restarted Cups/Samba no go.

Restarted machine and the printer bursts into life!!!

Magic. It would appear that it was the ln that did the trick.
