Installing Samba Cups printer
I have recently installed Slackware on an IBM Aptiva and am trying to access a colour printer on an XP box.
CUPS and Samba are both running. Can print to a Laser on a print server on the network. I can also print to the colour printer from Fedora and Mandrake running in separate partitions on the IBM Aptiva machine. My problem is that I try to install the printer using Printing Manager I select Add Printer but on the Backend Selection form the option <SMB Shared printer (Windows)> is greyed out. On the equvalent in Fedora and Mandrake this option is available for use. How do I enable this option ? The XP box is called abit. From slackware smbclient -L abit gives expected results in that it can see the XP machine and the shared printer. Thanks |
Progress!
Got the SMB enabled by the following cd /usr/lib/cups/backend ln -s /usr/bin/smbspool smb Printing total crap but at least it is printing. Need to find the right driver. AK |
Tried to get something else printed. It was having none of it.
Restarted Cups/Samba no go. Restarted machine and the printer bursts into life!!! Magic. It would appear that it was the ln that did the trick. AK |
