Not all appear in your KDE menu by default. You can go to the K menu , under Utilities or somewhere/somewhat like that you'll have smth named Menu Updating tool. Hit the Scan button, and most likely you'll have them there, then just select them and Apply. Alough again, not all come up at this Menu Updating Tool, so you'll just have to add it using the Menu Editor tool which is right before or under the Menu Updating tool. GL.

FWIW if you can make a folder in your home, let's call it 'scratchpad'

then copy your package over there

in KDE, just right click on it and say 'extract here'

remember packages are just gzipped archives, so when it extracts into the 'scratchpad' folder it will create a directory tree similar to where the package tool exploed the gzip file on your hard drive when you install it.

now since you basically have a folder structure, you can go thru all those folders, see what and where it's putting files on your system.

so if you put a package in that puts the binary/executable for a program called 'xmms' for instance, in your 'scratchpad' you'd have a subfolder & file called /usr/bin/xmms then just right click on your k-menu, hit menu editor, go up to the the category of the mutlimedia for this example, then click up top for new item and add in all the related info.

just so you know the icons are usually .xpm files
