Hello!
I am running Slackware Linux 11.0 with kernel test26.s
I need to install the programme OX or rather just its console version. This is the main page of Ox:
but so long as I know it is not good to force a rpm installation on Slackware.
I would be very glad if someone has already installed Ox-console on his system and shares his experience with me
download rpm file
in terminal run rpm2tgz file.rpm and convert file to tgz
installpkg file.tgz
Yes, that worked
I knew that approach myself but I have the impression from browsing this forum that this is not quite a healthy procedure for a Slackware system?
Too bad there is no source in this case. If there is no other way, yeah go ahead and try rpm2tgz, and if it works, great. If it doesn't, you'll have to try something else. Just remember that rpms were designed for RPM based distros, which may be different in meaningful ways from Slackware, and that the scripts embedded in the rpm are not run or dealt with by rpm2tgz. This is where problems may arise. But, it may just work, like it has for you.
