Install on sata disk

Hey, I'm trying to install slackware 10.2 on a computer that has a sata hard drive in it. I've never used a sata hard drive before today and I was just wondering where I needed to start.. I've tried doing it the same way that I would with a eide drive, by using fdisk on disk hda, but that isn't working. anyone help?? Thank you in advance

Try the fdisk on sda instead of hda, also be sure to use the sata kernel.

how would I use the sata kernel? Is there one on the slackware cd?

sorry, i'm kinda noobish right now, I havn't used linux in a long time.

I know that the last time I booted it was with the bare.i kernel and there was no sda.

I think you need to choose the sata.i kernel when installing.

And even when you don't choose, the Slackware 11.0 installer will start the sata.i kernel by default.

SATA disks are named like SCSI and USB drives: /dev/sda is the first drive, /dev/sdb is the second drive found, and so on.
Try
Code:
fdisk /dev/sda

You must first of all use the sata.i kernel when you boot from the CD. The instructions on the screen show some example like bare.i /dev/hda ....Replacing bare.i with sata.i is the first step. Further I can't remember what it exactly says. Probably something like root=/dev/hda. If I remember correctly, that must now point to your cd (/dev/hdb or so). I did it a couple of month ago, so not sure.

Somewhere after installation, you must select a kernel. Make sure to select sata.i again
