Dear All,

I have HP nx7400 series laptop and I want to install Slackware 11 on it. Apparently I need to install 2.6.20.6 kernel in order not to suffer from so-called "bad state" problem, which means that after each reboot or shutdown I will suffer from some BIOS and ACPI related problems. As far as I understood from Slackbook, when I install Slackware for the first time I cannot use kernel from usb memory stick. My question is: How can I use a kernel which is not included in the distribution? Can I somehow install it from usb-pendrive or separate none-install CD or may be from internet or local network? Any help or other solution is greatly appreciated.

that kernel is not included with Slackware-11, if you downloaded that kernel from kernel.org you can boot up with the CD and type in "linux root=/dev/hd? noinitrd ro" where ? equals your root partition and compile the kernel & update lilo, however this job does take some knowledge and patience so prepare yourself for it...

Can you please give some additional hints or link to the webpage where I can find more detailed information?
