IBM' Symphony? Anyone has it installed?

Hey,

I was searching The IBM/Lotus website and I saw that the Symphony suite runs in Linux, but is not supported by IBM to Slack users.

Anyone has it working?

This is what I got from the FAQ:

Quote:
What are the client system requirements?

* Lotus Symphony supports both Microsoft Windows® and Linux® platforms.

Note: Be sure your system meets these client system requirements:

* Supported Windows platforms: Windows XP, Windows Vista
* Supported Linux platforms: SLED 10, RHEL 5, Redhat5
* 750MB disk space minimum on Linux and 540M on Windows
* 512MB RAM memory minimum
* US English locale
And this is the link:

Everal,

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm very interested in Symphony too.

For what it's worth, here's a recent review from PC Magazine.

Regards,

-Drew

You could always try to use the rpm2tgz package tool.

It's build using OOo 1.1.4 old code base
and it requires bigger requirements than OOo

I can't even find a good download link on their site at all. Most of the links are dead.

No. It is closed source IBM proprietary.

I, too, am interested in seeing if anyone has this installed on Slackware. I haven't tried it out yet, but if it proves to be worth it I may write a slackware-friendly installer script for it.

As far as I can tell so far, the main feature difference between IBM's symphony and OpenOffice is the GUI style and possibly increased system requirements for symphony.

Right now it is beta4; I'm sure it will be better once some kinks are worked out.
