I want Know, how many kernel in slackware?
Hi
When I read the article "Configure your new Slackware System" in documents Slackware I knowing There is a two kernel, the "huge" and the "generic" and I knowing what difference between it. ok. when I install slackware 14.1,32bit. In the first step http://docs.slackware.com/_media/sla...:1-welcome.png I press F2, I found two kernel also! the "hugesmp" kernel and the "kmssmp" kernel! Is there a four kernel in slackware? 1 - huge 2 - generic 3 - hugesmp 4 - kmssmp I wante a clear answer,Please  |
The non-SMP kernels are mostly geared for older 32-bit systems in which certain Pentium series CPUs can not support an SMP kernel.
The modern 64-bit kernels are SMP only kernels. |
Well, 'kmssmp' is really 'hugesmp' booted without the 'nomodeset' parameter.
In 32 bit, the four kernels are really 'huge' and 'huge-smp', 'generic' and 'generic-smp'. As ReaperX7 says, use SMP unless you have a really old processor (older than a P-III, or some models of the Pentium M that don't support PAE.) |
