You might need some pretty old hardware also. Something from around the 486 to Pentium 100 era. Newer hardware may be so unsupported by software that old that you'll never get it to boot. Virtualization might be an answer, but the VM drivers may also have problems with software that old. Not trying to discourage you, and you can always read source code, but just pointing out potential obstacles.

You'll need to get your hands on Slackware 2.0 if you want the 1.0.9 kernel.

Current version numbers:
> Slackware 2.0
> SLS 1.05 with kernel 1.0
> Debian 0.91 Beta
> MCC 1.0+
> TAMU 1.0-A (binary only)
> JE distribution
> kernel sources version 1.1.23
> XFree86 Version 3.0 (Beta)
> Preliminary versions of the WINE code (Micorsoft Windows Emulator)
The "Linux Developer's Resource" is updated every two months. This release
was slightly delayed while we waited for Patrick to complete Slackware 2.0 !!
If memory serves me right I believe PV released Slackware 2.1 rather quickly. You may find it hard to find a Slackware 2.0 disk set(24 floppies).
BTW, LQ has a excellent spell check to make things right. It's a lot easier to read when the words are correct with proper grammar.
I have about every version of Slackware that ever came out, but not enough space / bandwidth to put them all on my site.
If anyone is interested, I can put Slackware 2.0.1 (kernel 1.0.9) on my site. It's about 270M...
i saw your website neils.horn . its confirm that your are a genius. any way i want to download it but the problem is that bochs or qemu is taking 100% cpu ... can it blow my cpu?
@astrogeek:
I'll put it up over the weekend. It will take a while, as my upload link at home is slow. I'll put the link here after it's finished.
@baxzius:
Don't know about bochs, but qemu should not take up 100% cpu.
OTOH, when running Slackware 1.01 your CPU will go to 100%, the same thing happens when running Windows 95 in an emulator.
I don't think it will "blow" your CPU, but you might want to monitor your temperature on the host.
