I need a new wireless G card. Recomendations?

I'm currently running 10.2 (NOT current)/custom compiled 2.6.15 with a D-Link DWL-650P1 wireless 'b' PCMCIA card w/wlan-ng.

I'm looking for a 'g' card. Any recomendations?

I do not want to use ndiswrapper. If I wanted Windows, I'd be running Windows.

Thanks in advance

Grab one with the Atheros chipset.

If you've been happy with D-Link, several of their cards use Atheros. DWL-G650 rev B & C, for example.

I'd say, google around. Maybe this is a good starting point: http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/

I already had that link, thanks. Too old to do much good for a new G card tho. I did use it for my DLink card (PrismII). Was very useful

Ok, didn't realize that. I have a Kubuntu laptop on which I should take a look at the wireless though. Guess this is a non trivial matter with Linux. I'd blame the hardware vendors.

Proxim

I like Proxim Orinoco cards

Personal preference though...

atheros based cards will use MadWiFi driver.

Hey ccWilson

What will you be using the card for? Just to make normal connections to your router or for any security related things as well?
PCMCIA or USB preferred?

I have a Intel IPW2200 built in which works very for general use.
I have a Saneo NL-2511CD PLUS EXT2 (no Internal antenna) <- Only a 802.11 B card but will receive G packets (normally) It is PRISM based (PCMCIA)
I have a DLINK DWL-122 (USB) b/g Dongle which which uses the Ralink rt2500 series chip and is AWESOME for everything! It does have issues however if you remove it from the system without unloading the module first tho (will crash) ...
THing is you can have it on an extension cable and point it different directions and get a bit better range etc... Also the rt2500 series drivers have been patched and are fully compatible with any security stuff if you were interested.

ipw2200BG

My laptop X31 has a minipci slot and built-in antena for wifi. I bought a ipw2200BG mini pci card, and it works great with driver from http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/

My mini pci is used by my modem.
Reason for the card change is that I drive a commercial vehicle for a living, and would like to connect at G speeds at the places I stay.

I have looked into this recently, and would recomend atheros or ralink chipsets, as they do g and have active support. Ralink does not yet support master (AP) mode, however you do not need that for your purposes.
Linksys make cards with the atheros chipset, but you dont always know what you are getting as they use other chipsets as well. You need to know the revision of the card to be sure.
In the end I got a Netgear WPN511 which works well with the atheros chipset.

I found this link very useful:

http://linux-wless.passys.nl/

this one is also useful if you decide to go atheros

http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility

or this for ralink

I have a D-Link AirPlus XtremeG (2.4MHz) Model DWL-G650 ver. C2 which works flawlessly. I use it in my laptop when I travel. So far, it has connected to all hotel Wi-Fi.

I have the same router as well as a Linksys WUSB54GS Wireless-G USB Network Adapter. Linksys doesn't have a Linux driver for the adapter. This isn't a "card", it is an antenna stick .... does anyone know where there is a possible driver, or a how-to to be able to hook up to the USB wireless?
Thanks In Advance
