Can you verify that you using the module sc92031 on kernel 2.4? If so, I don't think it's possible to get your card to work in kernel 2.6 right now. If you really want to run kernel 2.6, I suggest getting another ethernet card. Any cheap, old card would probably work automatically without any problems.

Realtek RTL8139 based cards are very popular :-) Always worked like a charm for me

Hi - similar to ahmed you have one of the cards that require the "sc92031" module, which you have to compile yourself. Use the manufacturer provided source and follow the instructions to compile.

It looks like you have the default 2.4.31 kernel, which is good, but note that you will not be able to upgrade to 2.6 kernels using this card at the moment.

i followed the README file but it shows errors... saying:

mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.4.29/net
install -m 644 -o root sc92031.o /lib/modules/2.4.29/net
/sbin/depmod -a || true

notice that it only runs on 2.4.29

ahmed, what kernel version is your 2.6.x? i currenlty installed kernel 2.6.17.8 using "installpkg" cmd. it works smoothly and modprobe 8139too/8139cp works fine too. but still i dont have my IP appear? when i type "/sbin/dhcpcd -d -t 10 eth0", nothing appears... i was expecting for an IP from my wireless ISP. is your realtek works fine in 2.4.x? in 2.6.x?

*peace*

hello yuchai! by your phrase, do you mean my realtek 8139d won't work on 2.6.x? iv installed 2.6.17.8 currently but i still cant connect to the internet. modprobe 8139too/8139cp works fine. but when i do "/sbin/dhcpcd -d -t 10 eth0", NO IP appears. only my localhost appears. im subscribing from a wireless ISP.

The Realtek 8139Ds work very well on 2.6.x, but as you noted it seems that you have a "fake" 8139 card that uses a different driver which doesn't currently work on 2.6.x

If there's truth to what that one guy said on the mailing list, I would chuck it and get a new card. If you click on that link to the mailing list that was in this thread and then read one of the replies, they were talking about how the "fake" cards are using capacitors that are known to leak out their electrolyte or something and are a possible fire hazard.

You can get really nice NIC cards these days for next to nothing. It's probably not worth saving $30-50 to risk having your house burn down.

Anyway, it's your choice, but I wanted to bring that up since it's something important to consider.
