i'd like to try
 

i'm a real newbie and i'm making some experience with a mandrake 9.1 distribution but i would like to try some more. i have heard bad and good thing about slackware and this is making me very curious.
now a new relase is out. what can you suggest me? should i jump or not?

It's your choice really :)

There's really no rocket science involved for slackware or any distro I guess - all that's required is patience and resolve.

If you hit a problem you'll find most answers on here and you can always go back to mandrake.

The latest version of dropline gnome from www.dropline.net in my opinion looks great and behave's well for a desktop and swaret, again downloadable, is great for keeping your system up to date.

If you go for it you'll probably find you end up configuring/doing most things via the command line which becomes an incredibly intuitive and fast way to do things.

The choice is yours :)

I think the base install of Slackware 9.1 is fast and mostly effortless. You just have to read a bit of the install instructions and decide how you want your file system set up.
After that, you can tweak Slackware 9.1 to your heart's content. You have to ask yourself if you're a 'hands on' type or a 'I don't want to know' (like Windoze users) type.
