huge-smp kernel quick question (SOLVED)

Hi,

I have a quick question re the huge-smp kernel:

Will it automatically detect RAM in excess of 4GB assuming the BIOS is set up to accomodate the additional memory?

Thanks,
-Joe

No, don't think so. You'll have to reconfigure and rebuild the kernel to get that.

Quick answer: No

I found it.

Quote:
# CONFIG_NOHIGHMEM is not set
CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G=y
# CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G is not set
CONFIG_PAGE_OFFSET=0xC0000000
CONFIG_HIGHMEM=y
I just wondered if it would autoconfig at installation.

For instance, it seems to have configed my processor OK:
Quote:
# CONFIG_M386 is not set
# CONFIG_M486 is not set
# CONFIG_M586 is not set
# CONFIG_M586TSC is not set
# CONFIG_M586MMX is not set
CONFIG_M686=y
I wasn't sure if this file was generated during installation, or if it was just pre-built.

Oddly, I have 2.6.27.7-smp #2 SMP installed, not 2.6.27.7-smp.

Thanks BrianL and TSquaredF!
