HPLIP and system tray problem

I am working on Slackware 14.1 x86 - 32 bit with KDE 4.10.5 and I got this error message at start up by HPLIP :

"No system tray detected on this system.
Unable to start, exiting."

After searching a bit I uninstalled HPLIP as I also don't have any printing needs on this machine but still system tray is not working. Most of the workarounds revolve around HPLIP itself but I don't understand, isn't hplip just a printing service and it failed to start because of some system tray problem.

So, I am basically looking to fix this "system tray" problem.

KDE should support it. Are you running as root or user?

Perhaps you have removed the System Tray widget.
To restore:
Click on the toolbox on the top right of the screen. (Select 'Unlock Widgets' if necessary.) Select 'Add Widgets'. Select the System Tray widget.

No embarrassment necessary. How do you think I guessed?
