HP Deskjet D4260 on Slackware 11 with CUPS and hpijs

Hi all,

My girlfriend bought a laptop bundle that came with the printer mentioned above and she gave it to me. I read on the Ubuntu forums that it works fine so I should be able to get it working with Slackware. The software download on the HP site points to the hplip page on sourceforge.net which I have downloaded the tar.gz. I followed the documentation and installed hplip. Now when I go to configure the printer with CUPS there is no D4260 listed in the printer driver dropdown list. If I choose another printer model (ex. D3940) and send a test page, all the lights on the printer start flashing and nothing comes out, so at least I know that the communication part is working. Now I just need to be able to select the printer from withing CUPS. How do I get my printer model into that dropdown list.

btw I am using http://localhost:631 to access CUPS.

I would suggest using the slackware package that is available for slackware 11, in the testing directory. eg here:

http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwar...ting/packages/

If you can't get it to work any other way. It will mean uninstalling your current version of hplip.

Get the PPD file here, then run CUPS from your web browser again. This time rather than using that other printer, browse to the location of this PPD, and try that one.

Sweet. Thanks guys. I downloaded the ppd and it worked. FYI I could not use localhost:631 to select my ppd I had to use the Printer settings from KDE to be able to browse.
