how to update grub?

Hi,

I have the following error in my dmesg output:

Quote:
tsc: Fast TSC calibration failed
I don't really understand what it means, but searching around I get that I should add acpi_pm to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub:

Quote:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="clocksource=acpi_pm"
I got the instructions from here.

After that I'm supposed to update GRUB, but how do I do that on Slackware 14.2?

If you already have grub / os-prober installed, and an existing grub.cfg was already made at some point in the past;
Code:
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
This is assuming your grub.cfg is in /boot/grub/, and your kernel (/boot/vmlinuz*) and any initrd (/boot/initrd.gz, etc) files are already in place and will match the filenames that the scripts (/etc/grub.d/10_linux, and so on) look for to determine what menu entries to create.

Hi,

On Slackware, if you update grub.cfg manually, you don't need to update grub as it will automatically read /boot/grub/grub.cfg at boot and take everything that is in there.

However, if (e.g. you update your kernel and) subsequently run grub-mkconfig, then you will have a new grub.cfg generated without the modifications you made. So, back it up before running any grub-mkconfig.

Cheers
