how to switch notification deamon
Hello everybody,
following the poll about tiling WMs, I decided to leave kde for a while and give i3 chance, and I'm really happy with it. One thing that doesn't work nicely with a tiling wm is the xfce notify deamon that pops over half my screen whenever firefox finished downloading some files, so I thought I'd install twmn and use that instead, but I can't find where the xfce deamon is being launched in the first place so I can disable it without removing the package. can anyone give me a pointer here? how do I stop xfce4-notifyd from being lunched? thanks, Niv |
Probably being started automatically by dbus on demand:
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.xfce.xfce4-notifyd.Notifications.service BTW, notification window works just fine on dwm. |
Thanks gazl, I changed it to start twmnd instead and it works fine.
The xfce-notify does work in i3 but it pops as a regular tiled window that takes up half the screen, i3 can probably be configured to treat it as a floating window but still I wanted something more minimalist in appearance. |
Weird, notifications from clementine appear through twmn as they should, but not firefox, firefox now uses what I guess is its own mechanism to display notifications at the corner of the screen, or maybe there is another notification daemon running? I don't know, anyway it's much better than before.

dwm floats the notification window by default for some reason so it's not a problem here, but it does take focus which isn't ideal. Might have to see if I can patch that behaviour out of it.
I wasn't aware of twmnd, might have to take a look myself. :) |
I'm also trying to get twmn working with i3. It is installed and displays messages sent with twmnc but not, eg. new mail notification from thunderbird.
