How to share files between a Linux host and a Windows machine in VirtualBox?

What is the best way to share files in virtualbox between host/machine. I thought of trying usb but the devices are all greyed out. I know the fix for this but I have to search for it, permission problem I think? Or is there a more elegant way?

Thanks

I always use a shared folder for sharing files between the host and the VM. Works flawless for me.

My solution

My solution is running VirtualBox as root user (inside KDE). Maybe you have an VirtualBox OSE version that is unable to manage USB devices.

If you've got a Samba share set up on the Linux host, you should be able to see that over the 'network'. Seems to work on my Mepis host - Ubuntu guest setup.
